OKLAHOMA GASOLINE PRICE AVERAGE TOPS $3 FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE OCTOBER, 2008

NEWS from AAA Oklahoma, Feb. 17 – For the first time in more than 28 months, Oklahoma’s average price for a gallon of self-serve regular has climbed above $3, according to AAA Oklahoma.

AAA’s FuelGaugeReport.com shows the Oklahoma gas price average today standing at $3.002, more than 57 cents above the price recorded one year ago and $1.21 more than on Feb. 17, 2009.

“Despite another week of bearish fundamental data for gasoline – good supplies, low demand and falling consumption – the price at the pump has continued its steady climb of the last several months,” said Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma. “Continued unrest in Egypt and surrounding nations seems to have spooked the markets.”

AAA reports Oklahoma’s statewide gasoline price average was $3.047 on Oct. 8, 2008, the last time the state average was above the $3 mark.

Just five states still have gas price averages below $3 per gallon today: Missouri at $2.939, Wyoming at $2.951, South Carolina at $2.979 and Tennessee and Texas both at $2.991.
