NEWS from AAA Oklahoma, Dec. 1 – Motorists traveling to Kansas City for this weekend’s Big XII OU-MU college football championship game will enjoy the lowest gasoline prices in the nation, AAA Oklahoma reports.
Today’s AAA Fuel Gauge Report (www.aaafuelgaugereport.com) shows self-serve regular is averaging $1.56 per gallon in Missouri and $1.65 in both Oklahoma and Kansas. The 47 other states all have higher averages today.
From Oklahoma City to Kansas City via I-35, total gasoline expense for the 710-mile round-trip, for a car averaging 23 miles per gallon, will be about $51. From Tulsa to Kansas City, via I-44 and U.S. 71, which is divided highway through Missouri as opposed to undivided U.S. 169 through Kansas, the 540-mile round trip drive will cost about $37.70 in fuel.
If you decide to fly to Kansas City for the game, AAA Travel reports the lowest airfares from Oklahoma City today are about $280 and from Tulsa, $258. SuperShuttle van service from Kansas City International to Arrowhead Stadium is $28 for the first person, one-way, and $9 for each additional person. A taxi one-way from the airport to Arrowhead will run you about $70. However, the most cost-effective form of transport to get to the game will be to rent a car. Rates vary widely, based upon size of vehicle, availability and company. Take advantage of association discounts, such as AAA’s with Hertz, and reserve a car early.
