AAA to Host “Texting While Driving Summit”
NEWS from AAA Oklahoma, Nov. 15 – This Wednesday, Nov. 17, lawmakers and safety advocates – including family members of victims killed in crashes involving cell phone-using drivers – will participate in a Texting While Driving Summit:
- 1:30 p.m.
- Nov. 17 – this Wednesday
- Room 412C
- State Capitol Building, Oklahoma City
One of the greatest threats to motorists on Oklahoma roadways is
distracted drivers. Yet Oklahoma – unlike 30 other states – has no law banning texting while driving.
“This summit will be a wide-ranging, free-wheeling exchange of ideas,” said Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma, the summit’s sponsor. “We’ll be talking about whether we need a law specifically forbidding texting while driving in Oklahoma and if so, what that law should look like.”
The summit will be preceded at 1 p.m. by the kick-off of the “It Can Wait” anti-texting pledge campaign to be held in the Blue Room on the second floor of the State Capitol Building.
